Super Computer vs COVID 19   University of Utah team led by chemist Thomas Cheatham and his researchers are using the Blue Waters supercomputer, the National Center for Super computing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and also the Longhorn and Frontera systems at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) at the University of Texas at Austin to design novel peptidic inhibitors of COVID-19 main protease – a specific protein among the class of enzymes that chops up other proteins, critical for many biological functions.

With the current Covid-19 situation , it clearly calls for All hands on deck war cry and Supercomputers are no exception at all. As a matter of fact, Supercomputers are proving more than essential in these dark times.

COVID- 19 HPC Consortium is now a group of 32 partners including government organisations, national labs, industry and academia. They received more than 60 proposals, out of which 32 have been approved and matched with a specific supercomputer, best suited for the needs of that particular research, and 24 of them have already started running their computations.
